Long Distance Moving Company Between Cape Town and Johannesburg

Homes and businesses moved on a dedicated truck, in both directions, on one agreed delivery date. Your load travels alone. Not squeezed in behind four other households waiting on their own paperwork.

About This Page

This page was created to provide clear and practical information about removals between Cape Town and Johannesburg for households, businesses and private clients who need a long distance moving company to handle an interprovincial move in either direction.

The purpose of this page is to help people moving between the Western Cape and Gauteng understand how a long distance move actually works, why quotes on this route vary so widely, and what to expect from a moving company that runs a dedicated truck to a fixed, agreed delivery date.

Buzz Movers runs the Cape Town to Johannesburg corridor as a core route in both directions, with branches at both ends of it, and has 147 Google reviews from customers who have used the service. The information on this page is based on moves carried out by our own crews on our own trucks, not generic removal descriptions.

What You Will Find on This Cape Town to Johannesburg Page

This page has been structured to give visitors quick access to all the key information related to furniture removals between Cape Town and Johannesburg, without needing to chase five different quotes before understanding what is actually being priced. We have intentionally included detailed sections covering:

  • How a Cape Town to Johannesburg move works from first quote to final setup
  • Why quotes on this route vary so much between removal companies
  • Dedicated truck moves, and what it means that your load is not shared with other households
  • The agreed delivery date and how the full money-back guarantee applies to it
  • Office and business relocations between the two cities
  • Packing, wrapping, boxing and crating, whether you pack yourself or we pack for you
  • Specialist items including pianos, motorcycles, fine art and hoisting
  • Storage for the gap between your move-out and move-in dates
  • GPS tracking and communication while your load is on the road
  • Collection and delivery areas at both ends of the route
  • Access into security estates, office parks and high rise buildings
  • Transparent, all-inclusive pricing with no hidden costs or fees

Each section exists to answer the questions we are asked most often by people moving between Cape Town and Johannesburg: when will my furniture actually arrive, who is handling it, what is included in the price, and what happens if something goes wrong.

Removals Focused on the Cape Town and Johannesburg Corridor

The information on this page has been written specifically for clients moving between the Western Cape and Gauteng. This is one of the longest domestic removal routes in South Africa, and it is the route where the difference between a dedicated truck and a consolidated load matters most. On a shared load your delivery date depends on when the other households on the truck are ready. On a dedicated truck it does not.

Buzz Movers has branches at both ends of this route, in Strand in the Western Cape and Midrand in Gauteng, which means collection and delivery are handled by our own teams rather than subcontracted at one end. We collect from and deliver to greater Cape Town, the Atlantic Seaboard, the Southern and Northern Suburbs, the City Bowl, Somerset West, Strand, the Helderberg and the Winelands, and across Johannesburg, Pretoria and the West Rand, including Sandton, Fourways, Randburg, Midrand, Kyalami, Waterfall and Centurion.

Whether you are relocating a family home north to Johannesburg, moving an office south to Cape Town, or sending a piano, motorcycle or fine art collection across the country, this page is designed to show you what a professional long distance removal should include and how an experienced moving partner changes how the move goes. Our vehicles are GPS-tracked for the full trip, and our drivers run these national routes regularly rather than occasionally.

Why Buzz Movers Is Qualified to Provide This Information

Unlike removal companies that handle only the transport leg, Buzz Movers manages the full execution of a Cape Town to Johannesburg move: detailed move planning against your timeline and inventory, professional packing and custom crating for fragile and valuable items, GPS-tracked transport, on-time delivery against the agreed date, and unpacking and setup at the destination. The same consultant handles the move from the first quote to the last box, and you are not coordinating separate suppliers at either end.

Buzz Movers is the only removal company offering a full money-back guarantee, alongside a guaranteed booked moving date and transparent, all-inclusive pricing. On a route this long, those two commitments are the ones that matter, because a missed date in Johannesburg cannot be fixed from Cape Town. Our crews handle household moves, office relocations and specialist loads that require hoisting or crating, and we move into security estates, office parks and high rise buildings where access has to be planned in advance.

This page exists to reflect that experience and to help clients make an informed decision when choosing a mover for the Cape Town to Johannesburg route. By clearly setting out our process, coverage areas, guarantees and approach, we aim to give you clarity and confidence before you book.

Struggling to find a mover that guarantees you
total peace of mind?

Buzz Movers moves homes and businesses between Cape Town and Johannesburg on a dedicated truck, which means your load is the only one on board. We plan the move around your dates, pack and wrap everything on site, transport it on a GPS tracked vehicle, and deliver on the date we agreed. We run our own branches at both ends of the route, in Strand in the Western Cape and Midrand in Gauteng, so the same company handles your collection and your delivery.

Homes

Full households of any size, from a one bedroom flat to a family home. Lounge, bedroom and dining room contents, appliances, electronics, artwork and mirrors, garden and patio equipment, gym equipment, tools and workshop contents, pot plants, and the full contents of every cupboard, garage and storeroom.

Businesses

Office and commercial relocations across the same route. Desks, workstations, boardroom setups, filing and archives, IT equipment and server hardware, retail fixtures and stock. We plan business moves around your downtime rather than ours, which usually means loading after hours or over a weekend so your team is working again on Monday.

Specialist items

Pianos, safes, pool tables, glass topped tables, chandeliers, wine collections, antiques, machinery and equipment. These are handled as part of the move with purpose built crating, not treated as an add-on problem. If you have something unusual, tell us during planning and we build it into the quote.

The price gap on this corridor comes down to one thing: whether your load travels alone or shares a truck with several others. Everything else is detail.

The shared load model

Your load goes onto a truck with four, five or six others. The truck leaves when it is full. The route is planned around every client on board, which means you get a delivery window rather than a delivery date, and then you wait.

It is cheaper because you are splitting fuel and tolls with strangers. What you give up is control of your timeline.

The Buzz Movers model

Your load is the only one on the truck. We collect on your date, drive your route, and deliver on the date written into your quote. Nothing waits for another household to finish packing or another delivery to be signed off.

If your handover date, your lease end, your first day at a new job or your reopening date depends on your goods arriving, a delivery window is not good enough. A missed date at the other end cannot be fixed from the one you left.

Buzz Movers runs its own branches at both ends of this route. The team that loads at one end hands over to a Buzz Movers team at the other, inside the same company. There is no appointed agent taking over halfway, and no second point of contact you have never spoken to.

Western Cape branch, Strand

23 Rankine Street, Gantz Plaza, Strand, Western Cape

Our Western Cape base sits in the Helderberg, close to Somerset West, Gordon’s Bay and Stellenbosch, with a straight run into Cape Town on the N2. As a removal company Cape Town side, we collect from and deliver to the Atlantic Seaboard, the Southern Suburbs, the City Bowl, and the Northern Suburbs including Durbanville, Brackenfell and Bellville, along with the business nodes in Century City, Tyger Valley and the Foreshore.

Access is what quietly breaks moving days in the Cape. Security estates in Somerset West and Durbanville carry vehicle size limits and restricted access hours. Older streets through the City Bowl and Woodstock are narrow. Buildings on the Atlantic Seaboard and in the CBD need lift bookings and loading bay permissions. We plan around all of it before the day, not on it.

Coming south and still deciding where to settle? Start with our guide to moving to Cape Town, which covers the suburbs, what it costs to live there, and how access differs across the peninsula.

Gauteng branch, Midrand

41 Belvedere Road, Glen Austin, Midrand, Gauteng

Glen Austin puts us on the N1 corridor between Johannesburg and Pretoria, which is the most practical position to work as a moving company Johannesburg and Pretoria side from one base. We collect from and deliver to Sandton, Fourways, Randburg, Roodepoort, Bryanston, Kyalami, Waterfall, Centurion and Pretoria East, along with the wider East and West Rand.

Gauteng has its own realities. Estate access control in Kyalami, Waterfall and Midstream needs notice and vehicle documentation. Boom gate routing through Fourways and Sandton needs planning. Office towers in Sandton, Rosebank and Bryanston need lift access and after hours permissions booked ahead. Our Midrand team handles this as standard.

If Gauteng is new to you, our guide to moving to Johannesburg walks through the suburbs, schools, cost of living and what to expect in your first month.

Cape Town to Johannesburg is about 1,400 km, almost all of it on the N1, and the same 1,400 km coming back the other way. Heading north, your load leaves the Western Cape through the Huguenot Tunnel and the Hex River Valley, runs the Karoo through Beaufort West and Three Sisters, crosses at Colesberg into the Free State, passes Bloemfontein and Kroonstad, and comes into Gauteng from the south. Southbound is the same road in reverse.

For a loaded truck that is a two day drive with a mandatory rest break, not an overnight dash. Any mover quoting you same-day delivery on this corridor is either not driving it themselves or not telling you about the handover.

Because your truck carries only your load, it drives your route. There is no detour to collect a household in Bloemfontein or drop one in Kroonstad. That is most of the reason a dedicated move arrives when it says it will.

Quotes on this route are all over the place, and not because movers are being cagey. It is because two completely different services are being sold under the same heading.

Look at what South African removal companies publish for this corridor. Dedicated truck rates sit at roughly R18,000 to R25,000 for a one bedroom, R28,000 to R42,000 for a two bedroom, and R38,000 to R55,000 for a three bedroom. Shared load rates for the same one bedroom start closer to R12,000, and some operators advertise the route from under R5,000.

That is not a small gap. A one bedroom move is quoted at R4,500 by one company and R18,000 by another, on the same road, between the same two cities. One of them is selling you a truck. The other is selling you a share of a truck and a delivery window.

Neither is wrong. They are different products. What matters is knowing which one you are buying before you sign.

Where the extras usually hide

Published add-on rates across the industry, worth asking every mover you speak to:

  • Pianos, safes and pool tables: R1,000 to R3,000 handling
  • Upper floors without a lift: R500 to R1,500 in additional labour
  • Professional packing: R45 to R75 per box
  • Storage: R350 to R1,200 per cubic metre per month, depending on the facility

Buzz Movers quotes all-inclusive. Everything above is priced into your quote during planning, not added on loading day.
